Why implement language policy?

  • Language policy can be seen as a kind of "rules of the game" for language use in an international language environment.
  • Language policy relates to actions to influence language use and attitudes towards languages and contains clear instructions on which language to use, when and in which situations.
  • A clear language policy facilitates the training of new employees and promotes continuous development and education within the company.
  • A litigation policy can help protect the company from legal issues related to communications and disclosure.
  • Language policy is a good way to promote inclusion and to strengthen communication and cohesion among employees of diverse backgrounds.
  • By implementing a language policy in the workplace, we ensure that Icelandic becomes a living part of everyone's daily interactions, while the policy supports employees, municipalities and companies in maintaining cultural heritage.

My area at the Tourism Training Centre

Not everyone has to reinvent the wheel. A language policy template is a good guide that managers can modify and adapt to their company.

The documents that administrators have edited and saved in their area are always accessible later to adjust as needed. It is also possible to offer access to the documents in the workspace to others, either to work on them together or in case a new employee takes over from the administrator.

Finally, you can either download the prepared document in PDF or save the link to the document as a web part on the company's website or internal website.
