Preparing for successful job interviews

Stefanía Hildur Ásmundsdóttir from Hagvangi came to the interview program "In a nutshell" to briefly review what managers in the tourism industry should keep in mind when preparing for job interviews.

Among other things, it was stated that it is important to:

  • Prepare a standard interview framework – and have the interviews systematic
  • Review what you need to know – define what skills and attributes are required for the job
  • Be aware of your own biases in the interview

We all have biases, so it is important that managers who conduct interviews are aware of it, know the most common manifestations of bias and try their best to be neutral.

Examples of bias are, for example, extrovert bias, when we are attracted to people who are open and cheerful, affinity bias when we are attracted to people who are similar to ourselves, and confirmation bias ) is when we look for arguments that support our cause and reject the arguments that counterbalance our own views.

The micro episodes "In a nutshell" is a joint project of Hæfnisetur turustønsinn, Samtaka turustønsinn and Markaðstofa of the regions.
